Clear Braces Q & A

What are clear braces?

Like traditional braces, clear braces use reliable wire-and-bracket orthodontic technology to straighten teeth, close gaps, and correct alignment issues.

However, unlike regular metal braces, clear braces are made with enamel-colored or clear brackets and wires that visually blend into your teeth, making them far less noticeable.

Because they’re just as effective as conventional braces for correcting almost any alignment or spacing issue, the main benefit of choosing clear braces lies in their aesthetic appeal.

During the time it takes to straighten your teeth and realign your bite, people will notice your smile, not unsightly metal brackets and wires.

Dr. Smith offers Six Month Smiles® clear braces, a highly versatile and aesthetically pleasing solution for teens and adults who need orthodontic work but don’t like the idea of wearing conspicuous braces.

How do clear aligners work?

For older teens and adults with mild-to-moderate tooth positioning or alignment problems, clear aligner systems are an effective and aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional wire-and-bracket braces.

Like braces, clear aligners straighten your teeth and correct bite problems by applying precise, controlled force.

Instead of having an orthodontic appliance bonded to your teeth and adjusted by hand every few weeks, these easy-to-use systems rely on a series of clear removable aligner trays to change the position of your teeth over time.

During the one-to-two-week period that you wear each clear aligner, it incrementally shifts specific teeth until you’re ready for the next one in the series. The straightening process is complete once you finish with the final aligner.

Dr. Smith offers ClearCorrect™ and SureSmile®, two of the most innovative and highly developed aligner systems available.

Which orthodontic treatment is right for me?

If you have mild-to-moderate spacing, positioning, or alignment issues, you may be a suitable candidate for either clear braces or invisible aligners.

Although both options are highly effective for correcting most minor or run-of-the-mill orthodontic problems, clear braces tend to be a bit more economical, and aligners tend to be a bit more convenient.

Many teens and adults like clear aligners because they’re completely removable and practically imperceptible — you take them out when it’s time to eat, brush your teeth, or play sports, and most people won’t notice you’re wearing an orthodontic appliance when you do have them on.

If you have more complicated orthodontic issues, clear braces probably offer you the best solution.

With an average treatment time of just six months, Six Month Smiles clear braces can address virtually any orthodontic issue, including more complex cases that can’t be treated by removable aligners.
